The Bean Shop

I've been ordering my coffee beans online from The Bean Shop for 8 years now. The pricing is competitive, including delivery charges. I live in Leicestershire and I am constantly amazed at the speed of delivery from Perth. I use the DPD delivery option, ordering in batches of 4 or 5 bags of beans at a time and this works out at just 3 for next day delivery which I believe is fantastic value. For example, I just had a delivery from the Bean Shop today. I placed the order on Monday evening at 19:55, well after the shop had closed for the day (also taking advantage of The Bean Shop’s loyalty programme to get some money off my order). The order was packed and despatched yesterday and delivered to me at 11:50 this morning, Wednesday. You couldn’t ask for a speedier turn around considering the 360 mile drive from my door to the shop. The quality and freshness of the coffee is top notch. Each bag shows the roasting date and I can tell from the blooming when brewing it using my V60 pour over that the roasting has been done very recently which confirms the roasting dates. Because I order several bags of beans at the same time I might start using one straight away and then pop the others in the freezer, which I’ve found works quite well to retain that “just roasted” quality as best as I can. The selection of coffees available is wide and as somebody who enjoys variety in my life I like the fact that there always seems to be something new for me try. Having said that, I do have my regular favourites : Old Brown Java, their Air Ambulance blend (with a contribution made to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance from every sale) and Blend 67 (named after the street address of the shop) – all are regular purchases for me. However, the real joy is in finding coffees produced by small, independent growers all over the world. Helping to support the ethical and sustainable production of coffee by such growers makes each mug taste all the better. As I said above, I’ve been buying online from Lorna and John at The Bean Shop for 8 years now. Sadly, I’ve never yet had the chance to visit the shop in person. I have driven by Perth on the A9 quite a few times over those 8 years but sadly always on the way to or home from destinations further afield. If I’m driving home to Leicestershire from the Isle of Lewis then I don’t really have the time to just “pop by” on the way. Hopefully I can remedy this at some point – if I’m heading further north I could always break the journey for a night at Perth. Keep up the fantastic work Lorna and John! I always enjoy placing an order for your wonderful coffee, sold at reasonable prices by people who are so clearly dedicated to their customers. I was even able to get my coffee fix from you during the height of the Covid pandemic which gave me a much needed boost during what was a very difficult time for me personally. Thank you!

I was given gift vouchers for my birthday as I'm a bit of a coffee lover. The 4 coffees I received were outstanding. Two of them being the best coffees I have ever tastes. Colombia cafe supremo is just outstanding. I've just put in my next order and will continue to do so from now on. For a few years now I have tried a lot of coffees, and some have been good but none great. This shop is amazing!

I’ll start by saying I’m a coffee novice, and just recently found my love for fresh coffee. Living in Perth, I had no idea the bean shop even existed but good old Google helped me find them! Anyway, I took myself down to the shop and wow! As soon as I opened the door I knew this was going to be a great place. The aroma was just divine, and the look and feel of the shop was just magical. I was greeted by two ladies and I explained my complete lack of knowledge. Not an issue at all. They asked me questions on my preferences, how I brewed and gave me some suggestions to tickle my tastebuds! What a great place and literally 1 mile from home. I left the shop no longer feeling like an idiot, instead, that I had bought beans that were right for me. What’s great is that one of the bags were roasted just yesterday! You can’t get fresher roasted than that! Onto the coffee. Well..... just delicious, what more is there to say. I for one have found my new regular supplier for coffee! And yes, I could order online, as I do with most things, but the experience of visiting the shop and the expertise and friendliness of the staff is something I won’t pass up on. In summary, you really don’t get quality and service these days like you do in the bean shop. Am absolute gem in the world of coffee!

I went to The Bean Shop for the first time just before Christmas, to get a gift for my partner. I had a budget in mind of 100 & asked one of the lovely staff members if they could help me find something. I told her what sort of thing I was looking for & we agreed on the Bialetti Moka Exclusive in Red, as well as the induction plate required for our stovetop & 2 bags of coffee beans (Ground in store for us). 108 total, very reasonably priced for all that I received. The seasonal coffee packaging & the mini dark chocolates included in the bag were also a lovely touch. I signed up to their Loyalty scheme where you accrue points/ off purchases & already have enough points to get a bag of coffee for only a couple quid. The Christmas present has already been well used & another visit to the shop is imminent! Instant coffee just doesn't cut it anymore!

Every time I visit Perth I pop into the Bean Shop. They've encouraged me to explore V60 pour over as a way forward. This time I bought 200g of Java ground for V60. It's dark and smooth and perfect for a quiet moment aite airson an anam fois-inntinn fhaighinn

Very relaxed atmosphere, friendly welcoming staff, love the fact my order was brought to my table, so helpful if you had shopping bags etc. Coffee hot and the right strength, croissant fresh, many tempting home baking, good choices on the menu for a delicious lunch. Love the fact it's an independent cafe. Therefore, good coffee, good atmosphere and good for the local economy.

I'm a bit of an idiot. In my ceaseless quest to find Specialty coffee excellence, I spend an inordinate amount of time on t'interweb looking for the holy grail roast. Then, just like that, my ageing brain kicks in and I remember a mere 20 minute drive away, or a click online, will provide the solution. John, Lorna and their crew, have been roasting a storm up for many years, so that dingbats like me, with imperfect memories, can avail themselves of top notch beans, at sensible prices. The current Nicaraguan and Guatemalan beans, are a prime example of Specialty wonderment. All that and smiling, helpful staff, who won't take the opportunity to berate you, for forgetting to remember!! I'm in a special happy place now...you can be, too. Bravo Beanies...bravo...
